Almost half of all fake news is distributed on the social networks VKontakte and Odnoklassniki. The growth in the volume of disinformation on Russian platforms is due to the fact that the overall traffic of messages, including fakes, was redirected from blocked foreign platforms.
Almost 70% of fakes are most active in the first three days after their appearance. The average lifespan of a false message in the information space is 4.7 days, noted Vladimir Tabak. Only implausible information related to conspiracy theories lives longer. The most active fakes concern sensitive topics.
Vladimir Tabak, "Dialogue Regions":
– For a long time, the story was being discussed on the Internet – those vaccinated against coronavirus can attract magnets. On Facebook*, there is still a group of followers of the teaching that the earth is flat, and it consists of more than 150 thousand people.
The key topics for creating fakes in 2022 were the SVO and partial mobilization, noted Lapsha Media. False facts are especially widely disseminated in the country's border regions. Thus, in the Belgorod Region, they are faced with post-truth, the dissemination of distorted facts, and are engaged in refutations on a daily basis, noted the region's governor Vyacheslav Gladkov. According to him, since the beginning of the special operation, residents have experienced three waves of fakes.
Vyacheslav Gladkov, Belgorod region:
– The first was connected with the pseudo-capture of Belgorod by the Ukrainian army, the second – with a fictitious attack on the governor, and the third – about the presence in the region of an allegedly large number of wounded who are not receiving assistance.
According to him, the population was calmed only by refuting the disinformation and developing a mechanism to counter it.
